Nicole Gekov concludes our month long teacher appreciation month. This girl does not disappoint! Nicole is a middle school counselor in the North Marion School District in Oregon. She has such an inspiring story of overcoming educational difficulties, like learning disabilities and unsafe learning environments from her youth. Later in the conversation she sheds light on many areas of education but one that personally hit home, for me, was systematic problems of racism in education. Nicole is a dynamic thinker and compassionate feeler and a treasure to be heard. Enjoy!

I'm super excited to introduce to you my most favorite girl in the world. She is my daughter and her name is, Ruthie Murphy!! Ruthie and I talk about her life story thus far. We talk about school, friends, God, and her ups and downs. Her heart is completely for people and it shows in how vulnerable she is to share her struggles in hopes to help others. What better way to continue teacher appreciation week than sitting down with Mr. Kevin Baumbauch!?! Kevin is a highly skilled 4th grade teacher at Willamette Primary School. We sit down and navigate his teaching career and what kind of expertise he presents in the classroom. He has a way of bridging the hardships kids face today to challenging the students to be mindful learners with lots of grace for themselves and others.
